Sometimes I just want to talk about random crap. No theme, no rules, just…whatever. That’s where I Do What I Want posts come in. This is where I…well, do whatever the hell I want. Enjoy…and be very afraid.

#1. Another Year, Another Adventure

My birthday is in a few days. Yay. Not! As you get older, birthdays become more depressing. Well, for me anyways. Getting old sucks. When I turned 21 (yes, this is when getting older started to get depressing for me, don’t judge) I decided to do something that would make birthdays more enjoyable. And that is…doing something new every birthday. I don’t like the same old dinner on my birthday routine. Boring! I find something I never tried before and go at it 100%. On my 21st birthday I went on a hot air balloon. Amazing. Sometimes I go to places I’ve never been, like the Natural History Museum. I went on a wine tour one time and even had high tea another time. Sometimes I don’t want to spend too much money so I will try something simple, like a few years ago I tried Cognac and soft shell crab for the first time. It doesn’t always have to be something big, just something new. It has made my birthday fun again. This year I am going to a paranormal Escape Room. So excited.

#2 PURPLE!

Since I was a kid purple has been my favorite color and it still is today. I feel like purple doesn’t get a lot a love but it’s the most unique color. If I’m buying something that has a variety of color choices, I always go for purple. That is all.

#3 Reading While TVing

I like to have the TV on while I read. I like background noise, don’t know why. Even when writing I like to have a show on in the background. My preference is HGTV and The Food Network. They have shows that you don’t have to pay too much attention too but no matter what is on, it’s always interesting. I love me some Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, Flea Market Flip, and House Hunters. Then we have Cake/Cupcake Wars, The Kitchen, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and Chopped.

when i was little my purple pencils was the first one to go, i hope you enjoy your new experience this year!( happy birthday in advance if we can wish it to you)

I leave the tv on in the background too. The volume has to be juuuust right though lol Not too loud but still there.

I never really cared about birthdays all that much but when hit 51 (no not 50 – I was ok with that one for some reason) it bothered me a lot. I think because I had a few physical problems going on so it felt like I was rapidly going downhill lol

I love the idea of trying something new each birthday. I might have to steal that idea because I am definitely getting older each year and it really is no fun when you look at it in those terms.

And purple is a great color! It has always been one of my favorites. 😉

  4. Lover Of Romance

Oh yes, I agree that birthdays can be such a pain sometimes. I don’t really look forward to them anymore. When I was younger yes, but just celebrated my thirtieth and man that was so not a fun day. 🙂

I think that background noise is not a bad thing for reading, that way you can read anywhere you go. I prefer to listen to music, like movie scores or instrumental music.

Young birthdays are fun, but they get more annoying as we get older.

  5. Christy LoveOfBooks

Oh yeah, your b-day is the day after my son’s. He bummed about turning 20. lol. That’s a great way to celebrate your birthdays, though.

I’m the same with #3. At least when I’m inside. I do a lot of reading, reviews, work, etc while outside.

  6. herding cats & burning soup

That’s a fun way to do your birthday. I’ve got one coming up as well. Ughs! We’re doing mine early and going to South Carolina for the total eclipse. So that’s new, right? lol Hope you have a great week and fun at the escape room 🙂

I had my birthday a few months ago and turned 32. I hope you have a interesting new birthday. The TV is often on at my house just to provide background noises, for other people, which I drown out with music on the computer. I write to music.

    Advance happy birthday!! #forever21

That’s a good idea, trying new things every year. Have you decided what you’re going to do this year? Have you gone on a scavenger hunt in your city? I’m going to one here in Nashville and it’s not like the Amazing Race, it’s at your pace but it’s timed. I thought I’d just throw it out there.

My color preference changes every year, I don’t know why. This year it seems to be anything in the green family. Lol

That sounds so fun! Tell me how it goes. I went to an escape room with some friends. It was paranormal themed. It was sooooooooooo cool!

  9. Kristin (Book Sniffers Anonymous)

I’m right there with you. Once I turned 21, birthdays started to get depressing. To the point where my mom and best friend flew out for my “quarter of a century” birthday celebration. Which was more or less driving down to San Diego and going to the beach and what not. Then when I turned 30 it was even more depressing and my family all skyped in with me and we played games until the early hours of the morning. My b-day is next month and I don’t know what I’m going to do. I like the idea of trying something new. So maybe I’ll steal your idea and come up with something to do on my bday because as of right now, I’m not really looking forward to turning another year older.

I think you should try it. I went to an Escape Room with some friends this birthday. So fun!

  10. shooting

I tend to have the TV on when I’m blogging or reading….shows like Flea Market Flip, Cake Wars, and Cupcake Wars ARE great to have on. My favorite color is purple too! It’s great. 🙂

Happy Birthday – I do love your idea of trying something new. Makes it more fun.
