I saw assassin in Blood Lust’s blurb and I was sold. Plus, the guy has a young daughter. I love when main characters have kids.

Another concept I love. Mercy is about a girl who can’t remember who she is. Yay!

What books did you get this week? Have you read any of the ones I got?

My Week

So I went to the Long Beach Antique Flea Market last Sunday and LOVED it. I love looking at all that old and rustic stuff people collect. My mom bought a handmade, industrial, metal bar cart to put aside the Jacuzzi. I totally want it for myself. I talked the guy down from $265 to $230. I looked up similar items online. They can be worth up to $900. Yay! I bought an art piece, painted on an very old piece of wood. I fell in love with it right away. It was going for $100 and I talked the girl down to $57. Yeah, because I’m awesome that way. ;D I wanted more stuff but I just couldn’t spend the money. There was this very old door, all marked up with old, chipped paint. So freaking rustic and shabby chic I wanted to squeal. But this girl saw it first so I let her take. I could have outbid her but why be mean? I would have just hung it on my wall. She wanted it for her headboard on her bed. Hey, that’s $165 saved. Gotta look at the positives.

My art piece. It’s about 8 feet long. I think it would look cool in a kitchen or dining room.

WOW! It sounds like you g guys had a blast!I’ve always had an eye out for the unique stuff and shabby looking stuff like that but never had the money to buy it! Gosh….. 200 dollars and up for that stuff?? HA. NO MA’AM. My eyes say YASS but my wallet says NAH. YOU BROKE.

Yeah, it’s not cheap stuff. I don’t mind an occasional splurge.

Sounds like a productive week for you! It was good of you to let the girl take it so hopefully good karma will lead to a few nice bargains in the future? Me, I might’ve wrestled her for it! LOL!

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

LOL, yeah, I kind of wanted to fight for it, but there was some things that didn’t make the door perfect and I didn’t want to bid higher on something that was already $175.

Great haul, Jennifer! Both your new books sound very good, in different ways 🙂
It sounds like the market was a success, too! Good for you on being able to bring prices down – I suck at that. I’m like OK, here’s my money, thank you 😀
Have a fantastic weekend and happy reading.

LOL, that’s my mom: “Here, take my money!” I told her to let me do all the talking.

Looks like you found some great books 🙂
Sounds like your great a negotiating prices, a skill I am not so good at.

I forgot to mention I started reading House of Night novel Chosen 🙂
I absolutely love the Cast’s world.

  5. Jessica @ a GREAT read

Ooh nice new reads! Those are new to me! And wow!! You really know how to haggle (I’m hoping that’s the right word! I remembered hearing it on Rugrats awhile back! Lol! Teen Nick plays all my 90s cartoons late night so I watch them on occasion and this was said by one of the babies, though they do have the tendency to mispronounce things!)! LOL!

    Here’s my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

Daaang. I need to take you shopping with me. So many times I got to places like that and I just pay what they are asking. LoL I’ve tried to haggle but I suck at it and they know it. >.< You are the master at it. So many awesome finds and for amazing deals, too! :shakes head: Where were you when I was car shopping? LoL

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

There are so many techniques. Like the guy with the table said there was no way he could go down in price because of storage costs, so I told him my mom only had $230 in her purse, which she actually did, so we either walked or he accepted it. And he accepted it. The art piece is subjective so I just low-balled her. lol

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

You have to bargain there everything is so damn expensive, lol.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I love looking at all that old stuff and handmade stuff. So cool.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I can’t wait until I have my own place to hang it up.

  7. Melissa Hayden

Oh wow. That sounds like a great Market to go to! 😀 Glad you enjoyed yourself. 🙂

  8. Liza

Awesome market finds Jennifer. I read Mercy ages ago and I remember that I liked it, I need to read the sequel now 🙂

  9. Jaclyn Canada

I think the picture you found would look great in a dining room or kitchen. I would’ve used the old door to hang up photos, but like you said why be mean when you didn’t have any special use in mind. I’m glad you had such a good time!

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

ooh, great idea for the door. It could have been used for so many great things.

Flea markets are fun! I love flea markets! It’s epic going there and scavenging for what you can find. As for the haul, Mercy and it’s second book in the series are ones that I got as well. They sound pretty cool so I hope they will be fun reads.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I did end up getting the second one the next day, lol. Hopefully they are good.
