Nevada Baylor has a unique and secret skill—she knows when people are lying—and she's used that magic (along with plain, hard work) to keep her colorful and close-knit family's detective agency afloat. But her new case pits her against the shadowy forces that almost destroyed the city of Houston once before, bringing Nevada back into contact with Connor "Mad" Rogan.

Rogan is a billionaire Prime—the highest rank of magic user—and as unreadable as ever, despite Nevada’s “talent.” But there’s no hiding the sparks between them. Now that the stakes are even higher, both professionally and personally, and their foes are unimaginably powerful, Rogan and Nevada will find that nothing burns like ice …

At A Glance

Okay, yeah, it’s awesome.

The Good

Burn for Me, the first book of the series, was really good. It was hard not to compare it to the Kate Daniels series since the Kate Daniels series is my holy grail. Burn for Me did not reach the levels of the Kate Daniels series. White Hot did!  I get it now. I see the amazingness of Kate Daniels in the Hidden Legacy series.

White Hot picks up a couple months after Burn for Me. Nevada takes on a murder case that’s way above her head but she has her family and Rogan to help her. OMG, this one hit hard in the feels. I wanted to cry a bit for the people who were lost, but mostly for the people they left behind. It was nice to learn more about Cornelius and have him become more involved in the series. His talent is scary. His daughter is so adorable I want to eat her up! Gotta clean those kitty eyes!

We get a lot deeper into the world Andrews created and we get to know a lot more about Nevada and Rogan. Nevada’s magic is growing and it’s getting the attention of some bad people. We learn about her family members’ magic as well. Their shit is cray-cray. We also learn about Rogan and his time in the military. Finally we understand why he is the way he is.

The mystery and action were on point. Lots of Prime politics and conspiracy theories to keep the book interesting. I love when series get better with each book because it’s so hard to achieve, but the Andrews know their shit.

I will admit, I went back and forth between 4.5 to 5 stars for White Hot. So I’m giving it a soft 5 for now because I was hardcore obsessed with this book the whole read.

The Bad

Nothing I can think of.

The Snuggly

Oh yeah, that’s what I am talking about. Bow chicka wow wow. Nevada and Rogan sex is hot and tingly.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t think it was possible but Hidden Legacy is becoming just as good as the Kate Daniels series, just in a different way. Very highly recommended.

Quotes

“I’m Mr.Ripped. I live in the gym. My teeth have biceps and my biceps have teeth. I chew up weights and shit out lead bricks”

“Enter my lair, said the dragon. I have shiny treasure for you to play with, I’ll keep you warm and safe, and if it suits my purpose, I’ll chain you to the floor and kill your client by throwing quarters at him with my magic. Been there, done that.”

“I missed you,” he said, his lips stretching into a slow, lazy smile. The ice in his eyes began to melt. “Did you miss me, Nevada?” He said my name. “No.” “Not even a little bit?” “No. Never thought of you.” Just because I usually chose not to lie didn’t mean I couldn’t. Rogan grinned and all of my thoughts went to the wrong places. He was almost unbearably handsome when he smiled.”

I’m working on getting through the first book now. I’m moving really slow because of so much happening in life. But I’m going to get there!

I was pretty sold on reading the first book in this lot already, but knowing what the sequel is even better has me soooo much more excited.
