Zombies are on the loose in New Orleans and of all the End of the World scenarios, Alexis Winter wasn’t prepared for this one. But, an apocalypse is an apocalypse and she should have this covered. She has been “prepping” for the last three years. The problem is location and timing. She’s stuck downtown and she has to get to her house on the outskirts of the city so she can get her supplies and bug-in (for the “non-preppers” this means hole up and stay safe).

Agreeing to work on a Saturday is now coming back to bite her on the ass big time. Hopefully, it won’t be a literal bite by the walking dead.

Luck favors the prepared, and as luck would have it, it comes in the form of the ridiculously hot Blake Miller. Former military man, current mercenary, Blake Miller, the man with the plan, his goal: steal a boat and trek up the Mississippi until they find safety. Alexis thinks this is a great plan and she decides to team up with Blake. The two team up in unexpected ways as they find they can’t keep their hands off of each other even when the world is falling down around them.

Can Alexis and Blake survive the end of the world, and if they do make it through the night, find a place that is safe and secure? Can their newfound attraction lead them down the road to love or heartbreak?

Zombies, sex, romance and carnage…you can’t get any better than this.

I've been a bad bird. This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years old due to its use of sexual content, substance use, and/or violence. Come be a bad bird with me!

At A Glance

I am obsessed and I don’t even know why!

The Good

Wow, a lot happens in this novella. I didn’t feel gipped like I usually do with novellas, though I was left dying to read the next book. I was on Goodreads so fast to see when book #2 comes out, which is in July. Yay!

So, we get zombie-goodness, humping-goodness, and gore-goodness. Some of my fav things in a book. 😀 Gillian did a great job of keeping my attention with lots of action, description, and a good story. Alexis is a ‘prepper’, so she is so ready for the zombie-apocalypse. She was a good mixture of badass heroine and twitterpated female. When Blake, ex-military hottie, teams up with Alexis to fight the new world together, lots of brain-smashing and hanky-panky ensues. Blake had a sweet heart with a dominate hand. Yummy.

These two were so cute together. They had an instant attraction that they often caved to, but they were always alert, always ready to survive and kick ass. I was so excited to see people actually prepared and equipped to handle the zombie invasion. They had a rough but productive journey that I enjoyed every second of. Then the ending kind of gutted me, but I am intrigued to see where it goes.

The Bad

I wish it was a bit more realistic. Yes, I know, it’s a zombie book. But I still want the feel of what it would really be like in a zombie-apocalypse. Run didn’t quite get there 100%.

The Snuggly

HOT! Seriously, this is a sizzling zombie book. Sure, the sex doesn’t always come at the best time, but I didn’t care. What a way to go, right? My cheeks were burning because I happen to have read this in public. Yeah, I was squirming.

Final Thoughts

I am reading the next book for sure. Run is not going to be for everyone, but it really worked well for me. It fit my mood perfectly. Very recommended.

About Gillian Zane

Gillian Zane has been writing fiction stories since she was first able to put pen to paper. She has published a few non-fiction books in her field of study, which is Art, but finally, after all, these years her first fiction novella is being released. Gillian is obsessed with anything that gives her a thrill and feels adding romance to any storyline is a good thing. She was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. She lives with her husband, too many animals in a little house that has way too many books.

Okay, that cover is completely misleading – I thought she would BE a zombie before I read the synopsis! I usually prefer a longer read, but this book does tick most of my boxes. Sizzling scenes, kick ass main characters and an immanent, interesting paranormal threat. Great review sweetie!

RE reading suggestions: The last apocalyptic book I read + found completely realistic/emotional was The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey… which reminds me, I totally need to read the second book now it’s out!

    • Jennifer Bielman

Just put The Fifth Wave on my tbr list. Thanks for the suggestion!

  2. Melliane

Oh yes I heard about this one. It’s been a while since I haven’t read a zombies read but I confess that I’m curious!

  3. Carrie

Okay… this review sold it for me. I’m on my way to Amazon right now. I’m not usually into zombies so much, but hot sex and violence? Yeah, I’m in!

  4. Sandy S

Sounds great-not sure how I would kill a zombie but I think Darryl has it with a cross bow-don’t get too close…lol

    • Jennifer Bielman

Darryl is perfect in every way! 🙂 Though I like me a Samurai sword.

  5. Lekeisha

My weapon of choice would be a machete. I’d take any kind of dagger/knife to get the job done. Jennifer you have me sold. I love me some zombies! Great review!

Okay, seriously love that this novella had you hooked, because honestly, how many times have we ever been able to say that about a novella? Amazing review! I don’t read erotica and I totally want to read this now. 😛

    • Jennifer Bielman

I know! I never say things like this about a novella, but it rocked my world.

  7. andrea heltsley

I know it sounds silly, but the whole zombie thing would be solved if we just tied all of their shoelaces together! That would keep them from chasing you lol!

  8. Victoria

I’m heading straight for some sparsely populated area… can’t be zombies around if there are no bodies right?!? lol

  9. Jaclyn Canada

It sounds fun for sure. I’ve always joked that when the zombie apocalypse happens I’ll be SOL. I can walk for hours on end, but have never been much of a runner. Glad you enjoyed it 😀

    • Jennifer Bielman

Ugh, running is the worst. Those zombies better be slow or I am screwed.
