Jane Yellowrock used to hunt vampires, but now she must fight--and win--beside them.

As Enforcer to the vampire Master of the City of New Orleans, Jane Yellowrock stakes her reputation and her life on keeping her territory safe. But Leo has been issued a blood challenge by the emperor of the European vampires, who seeks to usurp all of his power and possessions. If Leo loses the match to the death, the city will be forfeit, and the people of New Orleans will suffer the consequences. Jane can't let that happen.

Preparing for the duel requires all of Jane's focus, but with so much supernatural power in play, nothing goes according to plan. She has to rely on herself and the very few people she knows she can trust to stand and fight. Only two things are guaranteed: nothing is sacred, and no one is safe.

At A Glance

So much! So much happens. I can’t even.

The Good

Okay, first. Ayatas FireWind. WTF? Wasn’t expecting that curveball. I am still in shock. I so wish I could tell you what his dealio is but I shan’t. Too much of a spoiler. But it’s awesome, I can tell you that. OMG, and that intro. I still can’t even.

Then we have the shit coming down at vamp central. Infiltrators keep messing with the Jane clan and they keep getting away with it!!!! So frustrating. I just want Jane to kick everybody’s ass so bad, it upsets me when she can’t find the asses to kick.

Oh, how I love all the adorableness between Jane and her peeps. They legit make my black heart feel less black. I could just die over Jane and Bruiser’s relationship. Die from want! I want a Bruisy babe of my own.

Then we have Jane’s memories. Wow! We learn so much about her past. More than ever before. I feel honored.

Then the meat of the book. The last 3rd. Fuck! My brain hurts. I kept going, “Yes! Nooooo! Fuck yeah!! Dear God No!” I was an emotional wreck. Jane pretty much was right there with me. The battle with the European vamps comes and goes. People die. Bad things happen. I am simply devastated by some of it. Then the ending. Faith, you are so mean. Why do you make me cry?!!!!

The Bad

I found myself getting bored in the middle of the book. I just wanted to get to the meat and I kept getting corn and potatoes. Corn and potatoes are fine but they are nothing without the meat.

The Snuggly

Have I mentioned how much I love Bruiser and Jane together? They are sexy as hell but in a refined sort of way. The sex is good, but minimal detail, which, as always, works for the series.

Final Thoughts

This series only gets better. Dark Queen is so emotionally draining! I couldn’t even take another book right now so it’s good I will have to wait for the next one. If you read this series, this is the book you have been waiting for.
