Jane Yellowrock is a vampire killer for hire—but other creatures of the night still need to watch their backs.... When the Master of the city of New Orleans asks Jane to improve security for a future visit from a delegation of European vampires, she names an exorbitant price—and Leo is willing to pay. That’s because the European vamps want Leo’s territory, and he knows that he needs Jane to prevent a total bloodbath. Leo, however, doesn’t mention how this new job will change Jane’s life or the danger it will bring her and her team.
Jane has more to worry about than some greedy vampires. There’s a vicious creature stalking the streets of New Orleans, and its agenda seems to be ripping Leo and her to pieces. Now Jane just has to figure out how to kill something she can’t even see….

Hunter still has it!
The Good
I will admit, it’s been awhile since I last read a Faith Hunter book. I started the Jane Yellowrock Series a couple years ago and haven’t found the time recently to catch up. I read the first four books, then stopped, for no good reason. Now I am picking back up with book #8. I know, some of you will think I am insane, but I couldn’t pass up the chance to get back into this series. I didn’t feel like I was missing too much with skipping those few books. I fell right into the world I love, with the characters I love.
Wow, I can’t believe how much Jane has grown since I last read about her. She is really coming into her powers. She felt so…grown up. Obviously, Jane freaks out when she realizes she has accidently put down some roots, but I think this is good for her. Being a nomad forever is never fun. And Jane has finally turned into a girl. Again, that freaked Jane out, but I love this girly side to Jane. She is always so rough and strong, but I love that she finally has girl clothes, and puts on lipstick from time to time. Finding your feminine side, even when you often maim and kill things, can never be a bad thing. As always, Jane kicks butt a whole bunch in this book. It’s scary how she is fast becoming the strongest being amongst all the scary creatures. I am excited to see how far Hunter takes Jane.
The action was spot on and pretty much non-stop. I love how easily Hunter amps up the tension and suspense with just a few words. The plot was good. The bad guys were pretty creepy. I loved seeing all my old favs and some new faces. Beast is hilarious as always. Leo is crazy as always. I can’t wait for the next book. Things are going down for sure!
The Bad
I felt like there was a lot left unfinished. We get amped up to read about the European vamps coming, and that never happens. Broken Soul is about all the crazy stuff before the big event. Which is cool, but it left me with more questions than answers.
I love Jane. She is one of the strongest MCs out there, but I wish she stuck to her guns a bit more near the end. She was a little too forgiving for things that were not that forgivable.
The Snuggly
I may have missed what happened between Jane and Ricky Bo, but I love Jane and Bruiser together. He really is the perfect man for her…except at the end. I wish they talked about the incident before continuing their relationship.
Expect some steamy but not too detail sex scenes. Yummy!
Final Thoughts
Even with skipping a few books in the middle, this series is one of my favs. I wish I had time to keep up with all my series, but I don’t. But it was time to get back on the Jane Yellowrock horse, and I am so glad I did. Very recommended.
Carmel @ Rabid Reads
I listened to the first installment, and thought it was quite good, but books 2 & 3 didn’t really wow me, so I haven’t been tempted to dive back into this series since. But, you mentioned that a couple of the earlier novels didn’t make your fav list either; maybe I just need to suck it up, and push through to get to the good stuff.

I saw overall I’ve liked every book of the series, some more than others. I would stick with it.

Jane is one of my all time favorite kick ass heroines. I’m looking forward to reading and possibly even owning a copy (if I get lucky in this contest).
Jennifer Bielman
Good luck. So worth the read.
Mud
This is the BEST book so far. Jane has come a long way baby!
Jennifer Bielman
It really was a stand out. It’s rare for the character to grow as much as Jane has.

The Jane Yellowrock series is my favorite, I’m so looking forward to this new one. I want me some more Bruiser!
Jennifer Bielman
Bruiser is AWESOME. Though a little more backbone when it comes to Leo would be cool.

Another fascinating adventure

Definitely my favorite series. Even when Rick is being…idiotic.
Jennifer Bielman
I need to read the other books and see what happened to Rick!

I have for the most part really enjoyed this series. Their have books that I found kind of ehh but I love Jane, Bruiser and Leo, never been a fan of Rick. I’ve been excited for this release and glad to hear for the most part that it doesn’t disappoint. I really hope we will get more Jane and Bruiser.
Jennifer Bielman
I agree, more Jane and Bruiser is great. Ugh, but Leo tests my patience in this book.

I’m glad you told us that the European vamps didn’t make it here yet in this book. I will adjust my expectations accordingly. It sounds like the Jane/Bruiser relationship is on and off again. OK. I’ll steel myself for more drama. I swear though, if he ends up choosing Leo over Jane again, I’ll be done with him! He’s had enough chances.
Jennifer Bielman
He doesn’t really do that but he is still bowing down to Leo no matter how it hurts Jane, which is pissing me off.
Jaclyn Canada
She sounds like a fantastic character! I really am wanting to get into this series. I think I would enjoy it. I definitely love the character growth. Thanks for the awesome review!

It seems like there are a few meh books in the middle but overall people love this series.

Wow, you are my hero, picking a series back up by jumping in. LOL I am glad it worked for you, this series is new to me. I am going to go take a look at the first book in the series. I love the kick-ass cover 🙂

I know UF is not your main genre, but this is a great UF to get into.
Braine Talk Supe
I should do a “first in a series” binge/event. I have book 1’s of all of these amazing series that are just sitting stupid on my shelf/reader. This one included.

OMG, don’t wait any longer!

Can’t believe it, but that series wasn’t even on my list ! Thanks to your review, it is now, on the “next” shelf 😉
Jennifer Bielman
Oh wow, this is a huge UF. Gotta read.
Kate Woods
Not only is this a great series but Faith Hunter’s main character is a person of color which is do rare in fiction and makes me happy! Jane Yellowrock is amazing and the supporting characters and plots are riveting!
Jennifer Bielman
I agree. I lot more diversity. Which I love.
Dianne@ Tome Tender
Love this series! Thank you for the giveaway
Olivia
I haven’t read any books in this series but it does sound promising! I like your posts most of all when you write reviews because then we get to see a lot more about the book. But I can understand how school takes over your life 😛 I always read a lot in the holidays and then try and read a few during schoolwork, which means I have pre-written posts!

Yeah, school and work suck but they gotta get done, which means less time for books.
Chrystina Williams
I read the first one recently and really enjoyed it, then got sidetracked lol. Need to get back on this series soon 🙂
Jennifer Bielman
LOL, yeah, that happens to the best of us.
Barbara Elness
This is one of my favorite series, and I’m always excited when a new book comes out so I can see what happens next for Jane.
Jennifer Bielman
Happy to meet someone who love this series too.

When I start a new series, I go into it expecting not to get many answers. I understand that the author has to introduce the characters, build the world. and establish the plot, but I like it when they have a wrap up for the story and then tease you to the next book. The same goes for each new book. I’ve heard a lot about this series and may read it.
Jennifer Bielman
I agree, though sometimes the no answers this deep into a series can be annoying.
Nikki!
Luring me into putting more books on my TBR list, you are so naughty! LOL
Jennifer Bielman
I know, I am bad!
