top-reads-2015-1

So, it’s time to share my top favorite reads of 2015. These books were read in 2015, but they might have been published earlier. I gave the following books 5 or 4.5 stars which means they blew me away. FYI, please, please consider reading my top three books. You will not be disappointed. So, without further ado…

cover hero by samantha young cover with visions of red by trisha wolfe cover when a scot ties the knot by tessa dare

10. Hero by Samantha Young

Some of the best sex scenes I have ever read. Hero is a way better version of Fifty Shades of Grey but with no BDSM.

9. With Visions of Red by Trisha Wolfe

So dark, so messed up, so yummy. This book left me a little fucked in the head and I loved it! Not for the faint of heart.

8. When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare

One of the better historical romances I have read in a long time. The characters were great and I was left very satisfied by the whole story.

cover maybe someday by colleen hoover cover reviving izabel by j.a. redmerski

7. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

CoHo does it again. She is a freak genius when it comes to the written word. But she also knows how to rip out your heart and stomp all over it, and you can’t help but love her for it. I know, I’m a sadist.

6. Reviving Izabel by J.A. Redmerski

The second book of the series In The Company of Killers. Though I liked the first book a tiny bit more, Reviving Izabel was amazing in every way. Victor and Sarai’s story is just too yummy not consume.

cover black rainbow by jj mcavoy cover ever after by kim harrison

5. Black Rainbow by J.J. McAvoy

Who knew law could be so sexy? Levi was like the perfect man. I mean seriously, I am obsessed with him. I want him in every position possible!

4. Ever After by Kim Harrison

The progression of this series has blown me away. So many changes, so many heartbreaks, and Ever After is no different. Rachel and the gang have been with me from the beginning when I got back into reading 6 years ago. I am still putting off reading the rest of the series because I don’t want the journey to end.

cover surviving ice by ka tucker cover the martian by andy weir

3. Surviving Ice by K.A. Tucker

Hands down the best book of the series. I’m just sad it was the book that ended the series as well. The characters left me in awe. If you haven’t read a Tucker book then try this one, it doesn’t necessarily have to be read in order of the series. You will die of happiness!!!

2. The Martian by Andy Weir

You girls know I don’t read books like this very often, which should signify me giving it my #2 spot for the year as very significant.  The Martian is science-y as shit but the author makes you kind of understand it all. It’s crazy. I so wish I could have Martian babies with this book.

cover killing sarai

1. Killing Sarai by J.A Redmerski

YES. Just, yes! Yes all over it and yes to everything. Killing Sarai is hands down my favorite read of the year. In my review I said, “I think this is going to be my favorite book of the year.” Clairvoyant, bitches! lol. The characters, the story, the violence, the romance, it was all perfection. Nothing can beat this book. Nothing!

what a great list you have here!!! I really liked hero, one of the best angsty romances I have ever read!!! It had just the right balance between the characters. I have Black Rainbow on my e reader, but haven’t gotten around to it. I see that needs to be changed soon hehe I liked When The Scot Ties The Knot, but didn’t love it. Probably because the heroine felt more contemporary than historical…and I tend to be picky about my historical reads.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I agree, the heroine in When The Scot Ties the Knot was more contemp but I still had fun with it. You are going to love Black Rainbow!!!

  2. Caro [The Book Rogue]

I definitvely plan on reading your top 3, eventually. Killing Sarai has been on my tbr for quite some time, and I really should get around to a K.A. Tucker book in 2016… and I only heard amazing things about The Martian so far, so I’m pretty sure I’m going to read and watch it!
Currently working on my post for top books of the year. 😉

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Tucker is one of the best authors out there! And the Martian is so going to blow your socks off.

  3. Lekeisha

I’ve only read The Martian, but I definitely plan to get the entire Burying Water series soon. I also grabbed With Visions of Red last week while it was free. Great list!

  4. Rachel Lightwood @ Isytria

I loved Maybe Someday too – it was such a guilty pleasure read of mine. Ridge and Sydney was adorable! And so many of these are on my TBR – Killing Sarai, The Martian, Hero. I’ll have to check them out.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Maybe Someday is the perfect guilty pleasure. I loved the characters so much.

  5. Melanie Simmons @mlsimmons

I’ll have to check out Killing Sarah. I’m thinking I’ve heard of it, but can’t tell you any more about it than that. I will definitely look it up. I loved The Martian too (movie wasn’t half bad either, but not nearly as good as the book, but they never are). I’m a huge fan of The Hollows. I own With Visions of Red by Trisha Wolfe, but haven’t read it yet. Glad to see it was on your list. I’ll have to be sure to get it on my read list sometime soon.

    Here’s to a great 2016!

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

The movies are never as good as the books. it’s impossible. But The Martian was decent.

  6. Nitzan Schwarz

I have only read Killing Sarai on your list, which I loved, but I have been too afraid to pick up Reviving Izabel. I just feel like a lot of bad things have to happen to kick start that sequel and I’m a coward lol
When a Scot Ties the Knot is really high on my tbr. I love the author & series and I’ve been lusting over it for a while!
The Martian is really getting some buzz now, after the movie came out. Makes me really want to read it, even though it was nowhere near my radar before.

    Lovely post, as always!

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Yeah, lot’s of crap happens with Reviving Izabel. But it’s the third book that I hated. OMG, so upsetting.

  7. Lori L. Clark

The only one I’ve read on your list is Killing Sarai — I loved that book, too. I’ve got the rest of the series on my Kindle, but haven’t read it yet.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

The third book was not to my taste at all but I will continue the series because the first two were so amazing.

  8. Kristin

Nice list of books. Black Rainbow has been on my TRB list for a while now. I just need to suck it up and buy a copy. >.< I just have no more room on my bookshelves.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Go KA Tucker first. Ease into things. 🙂 Visions of Red is rough.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I liked Hero so much but I must admit, I didn’t remember much of it until I read my review. Doesn’t mean it was bad, I guess just not as memorable. Still, amazing book.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I still need to read the second one. OMG, get on it girl! You are so behind.

  9. Melissa (My World...in words and pages)

Oh nice list. So many new books there! 😀 Thank you!

  10. Jaclyn Canada

Ever After YES! I loved that one. It was my favorite of the series to that point. It just gets better and better. I completely understand holding off and letting it stretch out. I really want to read The Martian. The movie looks amazing, but I haven’t gotten to see it yet.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

OMG, you have to read The Martian. You would love it, even with it not being paranormal.

  11. Ashley

I feel so horrible that I haven’t read ANY of these books! I’ve really been too busy geeking out about the signed copy of “Feverborn” (Karen Marie Moning) I’m getting in 13 days. “Killing Sarai” looks awesome. Must buy!
