Sometimes I just want to talk about random crap. No theme, no rules, just…whatever. That’s what I Do What I Want posts come in. This is where I…well, do whatever the hell I want. Enjoy…and be very afraid.

When I am unemployed, my sleeping schedule gets all messed up because of my insomnia. I am up all night applying for jobs and sleep like 6am to 12pm. I don’t get much sleep. I am actually pretty productive at night, spending hours on my laptop. Since I am the only one up I like to have the TV on in the background, you know, to scare away the ghosts. 🙂 It makes me feel less lonely. I am all about the HGTV right now: House Hunters, Fixer Upper, Love It or List It. But HGTV goes all infomercial-y at 12am. So I have to find something else to watch.

Horror movies, baby! I watch/listen/have them on in the background all night. Crazy, I know. I don’t get scared very easily, so no, it doesn’t bother me that I am all alone watching scary movies, in the dark, with only the computer light to save me. Though, I will admit, sometimes I have to put the kitchen light on when I watch an especially horrific movie. The thing that gets me is when scary creatures crawl toward the victim. Creeps me out!

Anyway, I just wanted to share that weird tidbit about myself. Here are some movies I have watched recently (well re-watched since I have seen them all before): Deliver Us From Evil (I am watching this one right now! The crawling thing just happened. *shivers*), The Rite, The Butcher Boys, Trick ‘r Treat (I love this one!), As Above, So Below (another great one), The original The Haunting (My fav of all time), House on Haunted Hill (So effing scary), all of the Halloweens, all the Aliens, Quarantine, the list goes on!

I ran into an article that mentions the top 18 Underrated Horror Movies You Need To See ASAP. I have seen like 1/3 of them. My goal is to watch all of them one day. I looked a couple up and they sound horrifying!

What are some of your favorite horror movies? Can you stand to watch them by yourself? Are scary movies your thing or not so much?

I have to say that my favorite horror movies are The Exorcist (original version), Stay Alive, and House on Haunted Hill. I love watching them alone, but I cannot watch anything with dolls in it, thanks to a traumatic childhood experience revolving around Child’s Play.

I envy people who can watch these! I’m such a chicken and because of it have seen very few real horror movies. In fact, I think I watched more as a child than I ever have as an adult! They always look so good but if I watch them, I end up sleeping with the lights on for weeks after. Even the silly Halloween Lifetime movies give me the creeps.

LOL, Halloween lifetime movies? That’s pretty bad. I have watched scary movies since I was 5, so I am use to them.

I can watch them by myself but never when it’s already dark. Cause then afterwards I’m scared of the dark and I’ll imagine horrible stuff and that results in lack of sleep. xD My personal favorites are the Scream movies and the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies. 🙂

I watched them when I was younger. You know, Scream- Halloween- I Know What You Did Last Summer. Now, I hate them. In the last 10 years I’ve maybe watched 4. And those were family movie nights. Closest thing to a horror movie right now is The Walking Dead. Love that show!

    • Jennifer Bielman

Love Walking Dead too. I do notice as we get older, scary movies just don’t have the same appeal.

  5. Kristin

Yeah… no. I think if I tried watching something as silly as Supernatural by myself at night with no lights on I’d still freak myself out. I tend to find horror movies funny. :\ Except maybe Night of the Living Dead. That’s a classic.

    • Jennifer Bielman

Night of the Living Dead is AWESOME. Supernatural would scare you? Wow. Lightweight! hehe

As a kid, I didn’t watch to many horror films unless you count the Jurassic Part series. I don’t watch too many horror films, but I can’t get enough of Bitten. I will try to watch some around Halloween, though. I understand having the TV on as background noise, it does make you feel less alone. I once had hours kind of like yours, when I was on this one medication for my epilepsy. I kept the seizures under better control but I ended up staying up for days at a time. I since found a better medication.

Honestly, I hate horror movies. It really isn’t the movie, but my imagination after the movie. :p However, I have been reading more horror and so I may have to give those movies another try. Maybe… with all the lights on for days… 🙂

Haha I was just talking about this with someone else. I always have TV or stereo going when I’m working inside for background. The two main channels I have it on are Chiller and TCM. I actually prefer watching horror movies alone at night, even though they aren’t scary. I also like reading horror books at night next to an open window. lol. I did it when I was a teenager too, and one time my boyfriend came over and banged on the window. I threw the book at it without even thinking. LOL.

    • Jennifer Bielman

Yes! Chiller! Loves it. That’s what you get for tempting scariness! hehe. I was obsessed with TCM for a bit too.

I went through a phase when I was younger and watched a few horror movies, but I’m not a big fan of being scared or the jump starting of my heart. lol. Some are good, but some are just gory and not so good. And the mental thrillers. Gah. I know everyone loves them, but it scares the begebers out of me cause it could really happen! LOL!

My sis made me watch all the 80’s and 90’s horror movies growing up. My best friends also love them. I’ve never enjoyed scary movies. For the most part they are cheesy, and if they really are scary, I just don’t like being scared so I’m more into thrillers or movies about serial killers. The worst horror movie ever that I watched was called If I Die Before I Wake. Completely indie, made around 1998 and it scared the beejezus out of me. I can’t/won’t watch it again. The way it’s filmed is as if someone in the house is filming everything which makes it 10 times worse and it’s all about a home invasion which I can’t even watch panic 911 because of. I live by myself with my son so those types of things really, truly terrify me.

    • Jennifer Bielman

I do love serial killer movies too. I saw I die before I wake. So scary. I agree, how it was filmed was creepy.

  11. Olivia Roach

I am not a horror movie person at all! Horror books any day, but movies not at all! I can watch a horror movie just fine and not be afraid. But when it is time to go to sleep and I sit there with the lights off, that is when my imagination goes wild. So I can do soft horror but anything too creepy makes me pull all nighters ahaha.

    • Jennifer Bielman

I use to be that way. I would have to sleep with the tv on so it wasn’t too dark. lol
