Sometimes I just want to talk about random crap. No theme, no rules, just…whatever. That’s where I Do What I Want posts come in. This is where I…well, do whatever the hell I want. Enjoy…and be very afraid.

I am the most random person in the world. I think of random, weird stuff all the time. Like today, I was talking to my co-workers about who was the first person to put a pencil behind their ear to keep it in place? What was the situation that made that person do that? Was she a carpenter, a writer, a traveler with no place to put a pencil as she walked? Did it happen 100 years ago, 2000 years ago? Then we got into the discussion of what seperates the past, present, and future? A minute, a second, a nanosecond? Maybe the past, present, and future happens at the same time. Maybe these are just concepts we created because our tiny brains can’t process the passing of time without a label?

Yes, I understand I’m weird. I think of weird stuff all the time. Meh, it passes the time. There’s that time thing again. Anyway, all that ranting has absolutely nothing to do with what I wanted to talk about today. See, more randomness. What I wanted to talk about was hotels. I fucking love hotels. Yes, I’m a germaphobe who likes hotels, pretty much an oxymoron.

So, I am staying at a hotel for the next couple of days. Nope, no traveling or going anywhere special. Just a situation I have to deal with every so often. A certain time where I need to get out of the house and away from people. I actually get excited when this situation arises because I love hotels. I don’t know why. It’s like an adventure, a mini vacation from the norm. As long as it’s not a dump I can stay at any hotel. I’ve stayed at a lot in my life. Las Vegas hotels are always fun. The MGM and Bellagio have been my fav so far. Generic wise, my family are huge Embassy Suites fans. Great rooms and free buffet breakfast for a decent price. I’ve never stayed at a super expensive hotel (to me that’s more than $400 a night) but that is a dream of mine. I could literally take a vacation of just staying at a really nice hotel. Oooh, and I want to stay at a haunted hotel. We have some in California. Oh yeah, that is going to happen one day.

So yeah, that is my not so secret obsession. Hotels. Let the judging commence! 🙂

I think we’re all weid in our way a bit. It’s fun that you visited many hotels and I understand for the haunted one! I would be curious too!

No one wants to stay at one with me!!! lol Everyone is scared. I would be scared too but I won’t let that stop me.

    I like to always ask:

Who was the first person to see an egg come out of a chicken’s butt and think, “Yes, let’s eat this.”

Or, “It’s too weird to drink the milk from a woman’s breasts, so let’s use this cow instead.”

I also like hotels. Who doesn’t like having someone make your bed, vacuum and throw away the trash whenever you want the service? But I’ve never gotten a hotel room without being out of town. Too much of a luxury.

Ashley, I think an egg must have accidentally cracked open in order to give someone that idea. I’m also pretty sure they were originally eaten raw or we wouldn’t have the saying “Teach your grandmother to suck eggs.” I remember seeing that saying for the first time and thinking “Did people actually do that?” I guess they did.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

You right about the eggs, that’s probably exactly what happened.

OMG! You guys are hilarious! I’d love to try a haunted hotel too! … and the egg thing just made me spit coffee out of mouth and onto my keyboard.

I’ve only stayed at hotels when I was out of town. I like the Best Western near Vancouver. The room is good, there is a free breakfast (if your not on the gluten free diet) and a pool.
How did people first come to think it would be a good idea to drink milk from a cow or goat? People have been gathering eggs for eons, but milking animals has only been done with the beginnings of agriculture and only in some cultures.

Ugh, I know, being the first to squeeze a cow’s utter does not sound fun, but I guess if it’s good enough for the calf, it’s good enough for us.

    lol! Love your randomness.

I’ve done a lot of traveling all my life, and I still always get that weird excited feeling when I get to a hotel. Even when it’s places I’ve stayed at since I was a child. In high school, a bunch of us would get a room in town or a town next to ours. We were supposed to be spending the night at each others houses, but … yeah. lol.

The Hotel del Coronado is supposed to be haunted, but we didn’t see jack when we stayed there. In fact, I haven’t seen jack at any of them. lol.

Have fun with your hotel stay. I’ll be in one next week and will think of you when I jump on the bed a couple times. 😛

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Oooh, I will have to try the Hotel del Coronado one day. We can never get too old for jumping on beds.

Lol. Love you pencil thought. I have never thought about that. You must be my lost twin. I love staying at hotels. I do not go to any unless on vacation. The Times we do omg I sleep so good. They have the best pillows and crisp sheets. That remind me of my grandma’s house.

I love hotels! Mostly because I’m someone who really does not enjoy camping… so if I go on holidays I would much prefer to stay in a hotel room that includes a lovely breakfast 😀

  9. Shomeret

I have never been a happy camper. I went camping once for a week. It rained for the first three days and it was muddy after the rain stopped. Ugh!

I’ve stayed at Treasure Island in Vegas before, but that’s the only one. We walked through all the others and the Bellagio would be fun! I get a little freaked out by staying in hotel rooms though, I won’t lie. I have to pull back all the covers and check for bugs or I can’t sleep o_O
