Raised by an old fortune-teller within the dark veil of the Bavarian Black Forest, Rune has learned two valuable lessons: only take from the forest that which you can use, and never, never look anyone in the eye in the village. For something terrible happened in the forest long ago... and now, the whispers of a long-dead mother with a vengeful secret have come haunting.
Forced to flee all she has ever known, Rune soon learns of a legacy she is bound to--one that is drenched in fear, witchcraft and murder--a birthright that stretches beyond the grave to the trees where Rune is no longer safe.

A GLIMPSE BETWEEN THE PAGES OF FOREST OF WHISPERS
Hi everyone! Today is “Release Eve” for my YA Historical Mystery, FOREST OF WHISPERS, and I am sharing a glimpse into Rune’s dark world through a collection of MEMES my wonderful editor made over at Spencer Hill Press!
Before we check out those MEMES, let’s take a little visual tour of the area in Germany FOREST OF WHISPERS is based upon. *note: these are the actual castles mentioned in the book!
CASTLE PYRMONT
The neighboring castle to Eltz in Southwestern Bavaria. All inside have died of the Black Plague and have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Its halls are empty but echo with the footsteps of the dead and no one dares step inside.
In the 17th century, castles were often referred to as Burgs.
This is Burg Eltz, home to the Electorate and his son, Laurentz.
The village of Wurttemburg nestles against the Black Forest. In the novel, it is surrounded by a hedge, separating it from the shadowy depths of the forest as protection from the dark things that live within it.
Rune often visits the village on market day, but has been warned to keep a low profile, for someone who lives in such a dark place and sells fortunes for a living is not of social standing and cannot be trusted—so they say.
The Black Forest
Tales of strange haunting have plagued the nearby villages for years. They say banshees scream in the dead of night and witches fly on brooms across the treetops. It is the birthplace of nightmares.
But to Rune, it is home.
