What could go wrong when you’re trying to unravel a decades-old conspiracy?
As the current queen of the Ashland underworld, you would think that I, Gin Blanco, would know all about some secret society controlling things from behind the scenes. I might be the Spider, the city’s most fearsome assassin, but all my Ice and Stone elemental magic hasn’t done me a lick of good in learning more about “the Circle”. Despite my continued investigations, the trail’s gone as cold as the coming winter.
So when Finnegan Lane, my foster brother, gets word of a surprising inheritance, we figure why not skip town for someplace less dangerous for a few days? That place: Bullet Pointe, a fancy hotel resort complex plus Old West theme park that Finn now owns lock, stock, and barrel. At first, all the struttin’ cowboys and sassy saloon girls are just hokey fun. But add in some shady coincidences and Circle assassins lurking all around, and vacationing becomes wilder—and deadlier—than any of us expected.
Good thing this assassin brought plenty of knives to the gunfight…
At A Glance
Predictable but still loads of fun.
The Good
Oooh, Gin is getting closer to finding The Circle, a devious group who really runs Ashland and all the bad guys within. So excited. In Unraveled, we step into the wild west as Gin and the crew go on a vacation to the late Deidre’s old west resort. She left it to Finn, her son, but we all know that bitch only had nefarious attentions when it came to her son. The crew heads out anyway and runs into some old and new enemies.
Seriously, the old west theme was a hoot! All the fancy saloon girl dresses and rugged cowboys. Yeehaa! It was a nice change up. So Gin is still looking for the vampire Hugh Tucker, one of The Circle’s members. She needs a lead, any lead. And boy does she find a major one at the resort. As you can guess evil plotting, running, and knifing ensues. No rest for the wicked and all that.
I was really excited to get some insight on Gin’s mother and her involvement in everything. We haven’t heard a lot about Gin’s mother so far, just the basics, so any detail is like gold to me. We even get bits about her other sister. Fun!
Gin and the crew are slowly getting more information about The Circle. It’s very exciting. Still so many secrets to uncover. I can’t wait for the next book already.
The Bad
Even though I love this series, it’s no longer mysterious or surprising. Each book follows a similar plot formula. The predictability has gotten a little stale at book 15 but I still love the characters and story enough to give it a high star rating.
The Snuggly
We get our token sex scene. Short and sweet.
Final Thoughts
Unraveled is a very good addition to the series. I feel excited about the direction of the series and the characters are all doing good. As always, I recommend this series to everybody.

Melissa (Books and Things)
I loved that we got a bit more background to Gin’s mom. I’m also curious how all the new characters are going to fit into the arc. Love this series!
Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)
I loved learning about her mom.

I’m glad you could appreciate the old west theme and how it brought something new to the novel! It sounds like a lot was happening and it maintained the fun side of things. Sometimes books can be predictable but still good because it becomes more about getting to the journey of the ending you knew was going to happen.
Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)
It can’t always be perfect. 🙂
