Jane Yellowrock is a shape-shifting skinwalker…and the woman rogue vampires fear most.
Jane walks softly and carries a big stake to keep the peace in New Orleans, all part of her job as official Enforcer to Leo Pellissier, Master of the City. But Leo’s reign is being threatened by a visit from a delegation of ancient European vampires seeking to expand their dominions.
And there’s another danger to the city. When she hears reports of revenant vampires, loose in NOLA and out for blood, Jane goes to put them down—and discovers there’s something unusual about these revenants. They never should have risen.
Jane must test her strength against a deadly, unnatural magic beyond human understanding, and a ruthless cadre of near-immortals whose thirst for power knows no bounds…

Action packed!
The Good
You go, Janie! She is so badass I can barely take it! Seriously, her badassery has no bounds. I could read about her chopping off body parts all day long.
We get some great action in this one. Revenants galore and crazy European vamps doing all sorts of nefarious stuff. Finally. Though not the full on confrontation with the European vamps I expected, it sure is changing the course of everything.
I like the progression I’m seeing in some of these characters. Alex is growing up and Eli is having to deal with some hard memories. I love Jane’s little makeshift family. Bruiser and her are still going strong, and getting even closer. I love how girly Jane can get when it comes to Bruiser. Blushing and giggling. It’s crazy adorable.
Leo can suck a D! I am getting tired of him forcing things onto Jane. Then we get a surprise appearance from someone from the past. OMG, awkward!
The action amps up with each page to a great finale. I already can’t wait for the next book.
The Bad
Cold Reign had a slow beginning. It took some time to get to the main plot. After that the storyline felt a little similar to previous books.
Okay, I love Bruiser and Jane. I love how perfect they are and how accepting they are of each other. However, they are almost too perfect. Like, have a fight, get jealous, something. Their relationship is too easy and I want to see some more fire.
The Snuggly
Jane and Bruiser have some fun bedroom moments. Sexy but subtle at the same time.
Final Thoughts
As always, I highly recommend the Jane Yellowrock series, or any book by Faith Hunter. She knows how to lay down from words! Highly recommended.
Character Profile: Eva Chicalelee
AKA Ewi Tsagalili
She is a Cherokee grandmother of many children – a term of respect and honor. Old woman, with black hair braided and dangling over left shoulder, down to hips, very little gray. She has coppery skin crosshatched with lines, furrowed by wind and sun and time, eyes bright as black buttons. Her voice is soft, a whispered cadence of the very old ones. She has perfect white dentures. She terrifies Jane.
When going to water: her skin hung in folds from arms and thighs, rounded belly like a half-empty balloon, breasts heavy and pendulous. Strength in her limbs.
Watches Wheel of Fortune.

Sounds like a good series…not sure if I am up for one that long though…

I think it’s kind of funny how the relationship is too easy and that is the problem in the book! But you’re right, it always needs a struggle. I like the sound of the main character though, and how well the action is done.
Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)
I know, it’s sad that I think that way. lol
