So, I’ve been sick a lot the past half year. Before that, I was sick once in over 2 years. I guess I was due. Over a month ago, I was desperate to get over whatever was ailing me as fast as possible. I decided to try something new. Essential oils baby! I have no idea if they work or not but what the hell, I would try anything to not get sick or get over a sickness faster. So after much research I made my own concoction that I rub on my neck, feet, or hands every day. I haven’t gotten sick yet since I’ve been using it but it’s only been like a month, lol. I’ll have to give it a couple more months and actively being around a couple more sick people to know if it really works. But I thought I would share my find with you girls.

First, you have to dilute essential oils with a carrier oil. I chose coconut oil, because it’s awesome in every way. My own recipe (after much research) is 1 tablespoon of coconut oil to every 12 drops of essential oil. Below is 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 12 drops of lavender oil, 12 drops of eucalyptus oil, and 12 drops of lemon oil. Lavender essential oil has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Eucalyptus essential oil is antiviral and fights bacteria. It’s a great decongestant and helps open blocked nasal passages and soothe inflammation. Lemon essential oil helps boost the body’s immune system and increases your ability to fight off illness.

I bought cheap essential oils. I would like to invest in some better ones. Don’t know if it matters but I have heard certain brands are more effective.

So, yeah. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

So glad you found something that works! I’ve heard a lot of great things about oils. I definitely want to try them.

I always wanted to try them so it was nice to finally give it a try.

Hi! I have been using doterra oils for about a year now and I like them. It takes awhile to get them into your life consistently. I use a diffuser daily morning and night with a combo of Breathe, Lavender and Onguard. I make my own coconut oil rub for my feet to use after my shower in the morning. I also made a sugar scrub for the shower with Wild Orange / Peppermint. I just got some special jewelery which will hold drops of oil to wear.

But even before that I was healthy. I just try to eat right, exercise regularly, and get some sleep at a normal routine. I have had bad allergies but since I started with Allegra about 15 years ago that is under control mostly. I have now not had a cold in 13 years and the last time I had the flu was March 1996. Oh and I always wash my hands before I cook / eat. I also either use my own pen or use hand sanitizer after I use someone else’s pens (like at a store) So yeah, that’s it. Anne

I heard onguard is great. Heard great things about doterra in general. I love making sugar scrubs as well. My next post will be on that.

Do keep us posted on whether or not you feel this really works, Jennifer. It might be something I make up and send with my daughter when she starts college in the fall. It sounds like it smells good anyway! 😉 And I’d have never thought of doing something like this. If it really works, you could package it prettily and give it as gifts. 😀

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Yup, I give my sugar scrubs as gifts so why not this. No I’ve been around a couple sick people and have been safe so far.

I’ve made hand scrubs with sugar and they are the best! I will try out your recipe though and see how it goes 🙂

    Cool tips!

Sleeping is a challenge for me, either I don’t fall asleep fast enough, or I wake up middle of the night and can’t go back to my peaceful slumber. Lavender oil is my go-to now. I used to take melatonin, ZQuil, Unisom, etc. and I’d just get headaches and develop a tolerance so i quit. My room smells like a spa now, lavender everything! I even planted some, the leaves alone smell so good!

I didn’t know it has antiseptic properties, thanks for that tidbit! And I also use eucalyptus infused rubs when I have a cold, helps a ton!

I didn’t know lavender was good for sleeping. I have insomnia too. It’s hard for me to go to sleep too so I will try it out.

It’s terrible to being sick a whole lot, but it’s good that you were able to find some remedies that really do work when it comes to these kind of ailments. Thanks so much for sharing them <3

I really hope this works and it’s not just my imagination.

Yes, the better the quality, the better the effectiveness. Do not ingest any other than high quality and do research. Also remember that EOs are not benign and must be taken with care while handling it and using it. It’s also not overly dangerous (unless you have an allergy or reaction to it), but people assume that it is natural so it is benign. Hope I didn’t bore you. 😀 It is a good alternative to several otc products for most people.

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I am going to invest in better quality EOs soon. I hear doterra is good.

I’m still fighting a sinus infection that was caused by allergies. I wish I would stop feeling bad as well. It feels like I’ve been sick forever. I really hope this works for you! I’d love an update later 😀

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

I still have allergies too. No cure for that unfortunately.

I had the crud a week-ish ago and a bunch of ladies recommended essential oils on my feet for dealing with the cough. It went away before I could try it but next time I’m definitely going to give that a go. Got my fingers crossed it won’t be for a while. It’s rare for me to get sick so hopefully 🙂

    • Jennifer (Bad Bird Reads)

Yeah, I hear putting it on your feet is the best but I hate having oily feet all the time so I try different places too.
