Welcome to Books & Crafts, a craft circle composed of book bloggers, a sporadic meme where we share our other creative pursuits aside from reading and blogging. Everyone is welcome to join, just add your tag/label links below and you’re good to go!

So I have a pen pal in England that I’ve been writing for over 15 years. We met on a The Simpsons forum and connected over our love of Lisa. We email each other as much as we can and send gifts to each other on our Birthdays. We sometimes send each other stuff that represent our countries. Now that I have a hang on throw pillows, I decided to sew her some American flag pillows. I loved how these turned out. I kind of want to sew another pair for the family for Forth of July.

I want to sell throw pillow covers one day, do you think these would sell? Any suggestions?

These are great!! Pillows are a great idea. I know several people who like to take things like awards jackets and get them made into throw pillows. That is something you could do for some extra money if you want to be in the pillow business. This girl goes to horse shows and one of the awards each year is a jacket. How many of these jackets do you need? So she had at least one of them made into a pillow. It looks great. You could also do some cute T-Shirt designs or something. I’ve got an adorable Princess Bride t-shirt that I would love as a pillow. It would last a lot longer than as a t-shirt.

These are awesome ideas! Especially the t-shirts. They would look so cool.

I think there’s a market for it especially for one of a kind pieces like book themed, “upcycled” stuff, maybe even a different shape? Also I’ve noticed in the bazaars we go to that people are going crazy over monogrammed shit. Like there’s this store where their line was so fucking long and all they’re selling are these monogrammed shirts. I mean it’s cute, but I don’t really get why it’s a must. LOL

Fads can be so crazy. Monogrammed, really? Interesting. I do love the book theme.

Those are cute, cute, cute! I love the pattern of the flags. You should totally start trying to sell pillows. You should make some more of the flag pillows and start as soon as possible. A lot of people like to decorate for 4th of July.

I was thinking of specializing in holiday themed pillows. I love making them so much.

Pen pals are fun. It just sucks how much it costs sending stuff across seas. But its worth it in the end.

I love them! I’d really enjoy some Texas flag pillows as well. I wouldn’t know what to do with a cover though, I’d need the pillow. I’d also really love the Harry Potter throw pillows like the Maurader’s Map inspired ones that I’ve seen and the House crests. I think making those for July 4th is a fantastic idea.
