Welcome to Bookish Blatherings, a Bad Bird Reads feature where I ramble about bookish or bloggerish things and hopefully you will join in on the discussion.
So, some of you might have noticed that I started writing reviews for the books I read before I started blogging. School and work have made it hard to read as many books as I use to. So it’s been nice to fall back on the books I have read long ago, and it helps that I remember a good amount of details of those books. I don’t know why, but I have a good memory when it comes to the things I read. I’d say I have been reading solid for the past 5-6 years and blogging for 3. I have read a year here and a year there off and on for all my life but things always got in the way. This is the first time I have kept up with my reading in a long time. Anyway, I am getting off topic.
(I know this GIF makes no sense with the post but I laughed so hard when I saw it, I just needed to share it.)
Since I started writing reviews on my old books, I have been wondering what other bloggers do about this predicament. Since you guys started blogging, what have you done with all the books your read before? Did you review them in the beginning? Did you start blogging right when you started reading? Do you review your old books with the new ones? I think I have about 300 books I haven’t reviewed yet. And I have to assume some of you are in my same position. So, I am wondering…
How many years have you been blogging compared to how many years you’ve been reading?
What do you do with all those books you read before blogging? Review them or let them sit on your shelves?

I have a feature I made for that! Called Re-read & Review. These days I don’t have time to go back and re-read them though. 🙂

Well, that’s cool that you came up with that feature though, but yeah, re-reading can be time consuming.

I just started blogging back in March, so there are hundreds of books that I have read that I’m sure could be my fill-ins when I get overwhelmed again. I think I did a few reviews for books that I’ve read over the years, when I first started. I’m still new to this blogging world and I’m trying to take it one day at a time and not keep up with other bloggers, because everyone reviews differently.
Jennifer Bielman
I too reviewed books I read some time ago when I first started blogging, then I got into the new shiny book thing and I haven’t gotten to my old books until now.

I have read for YEARS and only blogging for a few. But I don’t have your memory for books and my taste has changed drastically, so I just blog about recent-ish reads. If I reread I might review it tho, but there isn’t time for that. I like your memory reviews. They remind me of the books I read a long time ago too. 🙂
When I need filler and actually do something, I post a picture 🙂 Good luck with all the stuff you have going on, and awesome job keeping the blog going as well.
Jennifer Bielman
Thanks so much. I have been sticking with reviewing books I know I would still love today.

I’ve only been a book blogger since the beginning of this year and I’ve been a reader for around 30 years 🙂 When I first started my blog I did do some short reviews of a few books that I read before I started blogging, but I’ve gotten away from those due to just not having time. I also started a series feature (that I also haven’t kept up on), where I did an overarching review of series’ that I read before I started blogging. I’d like to start this up again at some point.
Jennifer Bielman
That’s a great idea, the overarching reviews of a series. I would love to read some of those.

Hmm … I’ve been a pretty steady reader since I was little, except maybe a year about the time my son was born. But since I started blogging 3 years ago, the number of books I read has increases each year. I don’t review all the books I read on the blog. Sometimes I just rate them or write a couple of sentences on GR. If it isn’t a review book, then I usually only review on the blog if I really liked the book and feel like talking about it. I don’t think I’d review a book on the blog that I read before I started blogging unless I reread it, and I don’t like rereading.
Jennifer Bielman
I too review some books just on goodreads. Some are silly books that I don’t think other people need to know about but were just for me.
Braine Talk Supe
Well you know I do Flash Book Fridays, I wish I can do it more often, but I could barely keep my reviews in line, I blank out remembering books I’ve read BEFORE Talk Supe. LOL
I do get the virtue of doing this, saves a day of blogging and lessens the pressure off reading and finishing books on time.
Jennifer Bielman
I knew it was you who made me want to write these old book reviews, but I couldn’t find any of your Flash Book Fridays posts when I looked so I second guessed myself. lol.

Like you, I’ve read on and off most of my life, but have been a serious reader since 2002 so about 12 years. When I got a serious office job, I started reading on my breaks and when Zane went to sleep to help me wind down. I’m coming up on 2 years blogging. I’ve recently started spending a month on re-reads to go back to those series that I loved before blogging so I can review them. While I do remember them pretty well, I just want to revisit them. I feel like reviewing them without reading them again will just make me want to read them 😀 I love that you are doing these reviews. It’s helping me find some great series that I hadn’t heard of yet.
Jennifer Bielman
I love your rereading months. It was a great idea. I do like to reread from time to time but I just don’t have the time. I have too much to catch up on with new books, but I love writing reviews on books I read long ago but never got to share.

If I had to write a review for all the books I read before blogging, I’d have to have an extra life lol ! I used to read “serious” books and review them on a sort of Goodreads a couple of years ago. Since I started reading paranormal, erotic romances, I opened a blog especially for them. They’re my dirty secret, noone knows about them except one of my coworker who loves them too 🙂
Jennifer Bielman
HAHA, It’s so odd how much I have come to love erotica. I have been trying to review my old books on goodreads too. I just have too many.

I have only been blogging for a bout a year now – which means there are plenty of great books I have read before I started blogging, and in fact I have a waiting list of book reviews to post because I don’t have enough time to post them all xD But yeah, for the ones I have read before I leave alone, except if they were AMAZING. Then I will bring them up in list posts or tags or so.

That’s a great idea.
