From bestselling authors Becky Wicks (Before He Was Famous, Before He Was Gone) and Sarah Alderson (Hunting Lila, Fated, Come Back to Me) comes a new romance with a difference…

After losing her job and her boyfriend on the same day, Lara’s beginning to wonder if her life can possibly get any worse. Then along comes Jamie, a childhood friend, offering her a job delivering mysterious packages to random destinations around the world and suddenly things are looking up.

Lara packs her bags and sets off on an epic adventure, meeting billionaire Arabic Princes, rugged cowboys, a sparkling wannabe vampire, a love guru with sex on the brain and Angelina Jolie’s bodyguards along the way. But though trouble always seems to find Lara, it seems love is rather more elusive.

How writing an erotica proved too hilarious to finish: What really inspired authors Becky Wicks and Sarah Alderson (aka Lola Salt) to write The Extraordinary Life of Lara Craft?

BECKY: The need to write and offer something slightly different was what propelled us into action I think! We’d both been writing entirely different books (YA and travel memoirs) when we met, so we were both kind of keen to work on something else. Initially we threw around the idea of writing an erotica. We were like “well, if 50 Shades can sell a zillion copies, so can we!” (Yeah right)

When it came to filling the pages, we couldn’t do it, we kept laughing too much. We wrote chapter by chapter, passing it over to each other when we were done, and basing a lot of it I think on situations we pulled from our own memories as well as our imaginations. Lara has adventures in Dubai, Bali, LA… all of which I’d been to, and to be honest, some of the characters in this book, silly as they are, are actually based on real people. CP is real. Not sure about the white lion.

Travelling inspired us both to write The Extraordinary Life of Lara Craft (not Croft) I think, seeing as we’ve both done a lot of it. Personally I had never worked on a comedy romance, or even a fiction before I met Sarah as I’d been writing humorous travel books. We met over a glass or three of wine in Bali after a mutual friend introduced us, and we decided the universe had spoken – we had to carry on writing together!

SARAH: Like Becky said, we started off trying to write an erotica but we just ended up laughing so hard we almost lost control of our pelvic floor muscles, so about three chapters in we said ‘let’s just make this a comedy romance like Bridget Jones’, so we did. It’s a very British book and we both have a very similar sense of humour so it was really easy and fun to write.

I know when I was writing it I was just excited to send the next chapter to Becky because I wanted to see how much I could make her laugh. And vice versa. We would have tears streaming down our faces when we read it out loud.

BECKY: Look out for the scene in which a wannabe sparkly vampire gets Lara involved in remaking Twilight. The piggy back was enough to crack me up and that’s before the medicinal marijuana kicks in, in the RV. You just have to read it really. Let us know what you think!

Bahaha omg I wish I could have been a fly on that wall! If me and Jenni were to attempt to write an erotica I bet that’s what would happen, too >.< Great post ladies!

    • Jennifer Bielman

LOL, I think I could write a great erotic because I have such a dirty mind. But writing with a friend, not so sure.

  2. Braine

I saw this somewhere too and it sounds fun! I would read this! Also how about you girls read a funny almost satirical erotica?

  3. Jaclyn Canada

It sounds hilarious! I love the light take on the topic and bringing in humor from the outside like that. The cover is also a lot of fun. Thanks so much for sharing 😀

  4. Molly Mortensen

This book sounds hilarious! I like that you realized the book you were trying to write wasn’t working. Sounds like it helped both of you to write since you kept trying to get the other laughing. 🙂

These two are so adorable. I bet it would be fun to be present while they wrote.

Thanks ya’ll, and big thanks Jennifer for hosting, so glad you’re going to give the book a go, and yeah, we pretty much had to swipe tears from our faces while we were reading/editing each other’s scenes, it was so much fun!! Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I’m in India and the WIFI is HORRIBLE!!!
